Caution - rant ahead:

[rant]Ok Zone, I'm calling you out! And other radio stations need to pay attention to this too. I just picked the Zone because it's the most recent. 

I just received my Zone newsletter and followed the link through to enter to win a $10 g/c to Clive's. I filled out the form, and made sure all the lines marked with a * (mandatory field) were filled in. Then came the boxes at the bottom: 1 - Can Café Mexico contact me, and 2 - I agree to the terms of the contest. ONLY the 'terms' line was starred, so I clicked that.

Then I got an error message telling me the Café Mexico box had to be clicked too. No, it doesn't. It's not a mandatory box and I don't care if I can withdraw consent later. Forcing me to click a box just for a $10 g/c? Not gonna happen.

My inbox is filled with enough crap thankyouverymuch, and I still unsubscribe from tons of stuff every December 31st in order to start the New Year off cleaner. Forcing people to let yet one more thing intrude into their emails is not going to win you any fans.

I may sound a little overly-pissed about this, and I make no apologies for it. I take my cyber-privacy seriously and do what I can (and what I know) to ensure I'm not bombarded with spam and newsletters that aren't needed.  [/rant]
