Yes, today's blog is late because I was at Bryan Adams last night. What a FABULOUS show! ALL the hits (but no "Diana" because) and some new rockin' songs from his new album. Along with Whiskey in the Jar-O as one of his 5 encore songs, it was 2 hours of awesomeness.
My friend and I should have eaten at the $28.95 (not including gratuity according to the nice lady we finally were able to talk to on the phone at 5:25) buffet on the 3rd floor. That way we would have been in earlier, but instead, we ate elsewhere and then lined up with 3000(?) of our closest friends and waited for doors to open.
Save On Arena didn't open the doors at 7 like they said, it was closer to 7:20, and then by the time everyone got in, bought their beer(s) and merch, and found their seats, it was after 8, which meant Bryan didn't come on til nearly 8:30. We were kept entertained by the giant screen behind the stage with a video of his head and part of his torso, being poked, prodded, moved around, etc, by various people and things.
He opened with his new Ultimate Love title track and kept the night going strong. No breaks for him (his band took off for a quick beer and pee break around half-way through), as he played one of three guitars for every song. He's definitely been on stage a time or two (ha) as he has a simple but effective stage show with the giant screen showing videos and sometimes views from the cameras in the audience and on stage.
He had us all singing along to ALL his hits, and his band was on point all night - tight, professional, hammering out hit after hit - all in black sports coats and jeans. I was particularly struck by the lead guitarist, Keith, with his beat-up old Strat missing most of its paint, you could tell it was a loved instrument played for years.
There were surprises in the whole show - different ways of hearing his old hits, the lights which floated up and down and danced along with us, and even Helena Bonham Carter dancing on the screen behind him for Brand New Day.
I won these tickets from Ocean and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to see such a Canadian legend in concert.
This is why I run the page and blog and such - I want all of you to have these kinds of opportunities too!
