I've tried to move my purchasing from stores to friends who have home businesses or people I know in the community who have a business. This makes it difficult for the kids as they're all Lego, all the time... and of course, Costco has the best prices around hands down on all the gifts the kids want.
It's a hard line to walk - saving money and supporting people I know. How do you do it? Are you a 'feck it, I'll just hit the mall' kind of shopper, or a 'I want to support locally and I go to great lengths to do it', or a mix of the two?
That's why I try to win stuff - eases the budget up considerably! And it's fun to be able to take the family somewhere and actually afford treats because I saved a whack with the free tickets.
