Friday 8 July 2016 & Weekend Info Post

OMG Dixie Chicks are amazing!! Contests Van wrote a whole review about the show here if you're interested. We also were given some BC Lions tickets by sheer fluke - and they were right on the 50 yard line (give or take) and were awesome!! We stayed for the first hour or so and then left for the DXC show which wasn't such a huge deal seeing as how 1 - they were playing the Argos, and 2 - they lost. BUT, now I only have a Canucks game to hit and I'll have been to each of the major professional games in Canada - I've seen the Jays and Raptors in Toronto years ago.

What I liked about the Lions game was that it wasn't completely jam-packed at BC Place, and there were lots of kids there, enjoying a football game with their parents. My kids would probably love experiencing that. It's hard when we're on the Island to come over for games and such, but if there's one playing while we're here anyway, it would be a good addition to the visit I think.

But the Chix... OMG... Just... just... wow. They were outstanding. I checked out a couple things online about the show and knew they might do Nothing Compares 2U and they did, but the first song was Let's Go Crazy played by Prince over the loudspeakers... and my heart just burst. I cried for a week after Bowie and then another week after Prince, so hearing my favourite Prince song played in an arena (especially after I missed him last time he was in town) was just amazing. Later, the girls did a song off of Bey's album Lemonade (don't know the song) and they 'grassed it up, which just goes to prove that Natalie could sing a grocery list and still sound amazing. The arms on Emily and the smiles and love that Martie puts into her playing just made me think, "WOW, what an amazing role model for female musicians." I then had a little dream of the Chicks, Pink!, and Rih all in concert together, showing young girls how it should be done.... And then back to reality with Sin Wagon, probably my all-time favourite Dixie Chicks song ever.

The seats we won from Ocean were great - the whole gang from the Island were seated together - front row of section 109 (near the back corner), near the sound booth, so we got great views and great sound. Paul Brandt last year were the same great seats - near the sound booth where you know you'll get great sound.

And as I'm over visiting Contests Vancouver, this morning I managed to win Cultus Lake Park tickets for another visit this summer!! YAY!

I hope you all have a great weekend and I'll have our sneak peek at the week ahead on Sunday once I'm home and immersed in piles of laundry.
