Friday, 1 April 2016

I don't like pranks. But I do like trivia. So, here's the history of April Fool's Day. Waaaay back when we were all pagans ;), we celebrated the first day of spring on this day (or near enough; we didn't really have a calendar, and the one we did use was Stonehenge, and it was a little big for the desk).

Anyway, when the Romans came along and they brought Christianity, they moved the first day of spring to March 21st when the daylight and night were equal (the equinox) to coincide with Easter (which is the first full moon AFTER the 21st). Anyone who still celebrated on April 1st was a 'fool' and therefore open to pranking because if they were gullible enough to follow some old-fashioned religion, then they were gullible enough to fall for the ol' salt in the sugar-bowl trick (or the medieval equivalent).

And there you have it. Yet another 'holiday tradition' brought to you by invasion.

The Wolf  is drawing for the three big Cabela's g/c's today: first person gets a $50 card, second name gets $200, and the lucky third person gets $500!

Coast has a new poll out and I think trivia too (I know I answered a question the other day, but now it's not showing...).

KiSS has a bonus code out: ANTI. They also added more days to the #GetKiSSed concert cut out thingy:

  • Friday, April 1: 4pm – 6pm at Ann-Louise Jewelers (Bay Centre)
  • Saturday, April 2: 10pm – Midnight at Sugar Nightclub
  • Sunday, April 3rd: 2pm – 4pm at Dodd’s Furniture and Mattress
The Zone's new Phrase That Pays is ending today! Here it is (finally): Meanwhile at the Zone, Dylan desperately and determinedly develops devious disputes with Jason who jokes and judges justly as Jenny joyfully avoids jeering by juggling and jamming with the jolly and gentle Jay. Conjointly, John generously bejwels his giant Japandroids jumper while Pol persistently prays with a pack of pleasantly personable pirates.

Easy.

CFAX has their Lucky Canuck contest - listen to their play-by-play for each game during which they'll announce a Lucky Canuck. Go online and enter the name and if you're called by Al Ferraby, you'll win $50 to Glenwood Meats (!) and entered into a draw to see a Canucks game with accommodation at the Rosedale on Robson and flights on Harbour Air there and back! Enter as much as you like for more chances to win.

The Elantra contest is still on! Enter HERE to get your name in ASAP. They'll call a qualifier's name at 7:10, 8:10, 12:10 and 4:10 (I'll do my best to listen and then Tweet & Facebook the name) until April 8th, and that person has about 30 minutes to call back to be in the draw for a 2016 Elantra, $1000 gas and first year's insurance!

Keep your ears peeled for this station - they don't always advertise their contests, but when I hear, I'll post.
