Rant ahead.  <rant on>

Every day, I turn to Juice at 4:18 to make sure I don't miss the Rewards Code of the day. At this time, I'm driving through Victoria, usually I'm on the highway near the hospital exit, and the reception is just fine. At 4:20, I'm heading past the Millstream exit and again, I can hear the station great. But the DJ doesn't say the code at 4:20. Usually there's a song playing. And then another one. And today, ANOTHER one. It was 4:30 when he said the code - 10 minutes late. Where was I? Going under the Leigh Rd overpass, where three radio stations are fighting the airwaves for dominance. This means I get scrambled garbage, and it continues until I'm past the park. This happens more often than not.

I usually Facebook Juice and ask for the code, and I usually get it. Except today, when I mentioned that each day the code is coming later and later and so I missed it yet again because he was 10 minutes late. I guess I was rude, but it was hard to text and drive, never mind putting in smiley face emoticons (for the record, I do voice-to-text when I'm driving) to soften the blow.

Seriously, it's not hard. If the announced timings for codes or artist of the day or a call-in for a contest is stated at a specific time, then SAY them at or near that time. NOT two minutes before. NOT 10 minutes after. At.That.Time. or, if you MUST put in some commercials, then 2 minutes after is acceptable. But 10 minutes? Really? There's no reason for a song to end at 4:19, and then another song ends at 4:26 and then ANOTHER song to end at 4:30 before you say the code. It's bad enough the code is preceded by who won yesterday, what they won, all the merchants you can get code at and where to go online to enter the code. 

I get why it's done, I honestly do. You want listeners to listen for longer. But I'm not about to pull over to the side of the road or drive around Langford waiting for good reception to hear the damn code, not even for the chance at 1000 points. The whole point of radio is that it's a convenient and portable source of music and information. At some point, it's going to become inconvenient for me to listen and then I'm going to have to give up. And I really don't want to.
